Health
Travelling to Curacao can be done by everyone, as the island has a high standard of hygiene and health,
which are based on European/Dutch standards. You will not need any precautions as tropical diseases
don’t occur. You should, however, take normal precautions which are common for a warm country, specially
concerning your stomach. But as you can buy al common drugs and medicines, don’t worry about this.
Drinking from the tap
You can drink water directly from the tap. Other then in many countries, you will not even taste a difference
with bottled water. Tap water is gained from seawater and very good of quality.
In our villa’s we provide a large refrigerator with an iced water and ice-dispenser. There is no need to buy
bottled water, however these are widely available.
As water is very expensive, many gardens and pools are filled by deep-well water which, of course, you should
not drink.
Doctors
And if you need a doctor, you can call ours. In the villa there is a manual with his/hers details. You can
make an appointment or go the set hours you can visit him/her. In severe cases he/she will come to the villa.
You have to pay cash, but the doctor’s wages are far below the US-standards. If you have a travel insurance,
you can claim the costs of a doctor in most cases.
Our doctors speak English very well.
Drugstores
Drugstores are widely spread on Curaçao. They offer more products than a European Pharmacy but are smaller
than a US drugstore. They are called ‘Botika’ and it is easy to find one.
Hospitals
There a several hospitals. The St Elisabeth’s is the largest, furthermore there are some private clinics at
reasonable rates but with elevated services.
Decompression Chamber
St. Elisabeth’s has a decompression chamber if needed.
